What does it take to build a runway?
Corporate Magazine OP Schiphol
Building a runway takes at least 225,000 m2 of asphalt (including an antiskid top layer), 1500 lamps and 130 km of cables. Giving the need to accept increasingly heavy aircrafts slamming down upon their runways (the Airbus A380 is certificated to take off at a weight of over 1 million pounds), Schiphol completely renovated the Kaagbaan.
