The horrific massacre on the news floor of Charlie Hebdo is an assault on everything I strongly believe in:
the freedom of art and expression, the access to knowledge and information and our human need for humor and laughter.

All barbarians with a total lack of a broader perspective should realize the pen will always be mightier than the sword.
And love and respect will prevail.

My thoughts are with all family and friends of the victims. May their courage and creativity inspire us.

Aan de vooravond van de actiedag tegen Ebola, op vrijdag 28 november 2014, maakten we voor het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken een infographic over de Nederlandse inzet.

Tot nu toe zijn zo'n 14.000 mensen besmet geraakt met ebola. Ongeveer 5000 mensen kwamen te overlijden. Vooral in Sierra Leone, Guinee en Liberia zijn veel slachtoffers gevallen.

Een infographic is een journalistiek beeldverslag van een historische gebeurtenis, van een gewelddadig nieuwsfeit, van een imposant project, van een briljante uitvinding of - gewoon - van een alledaags verschijnsel. De aantrekkelijke vorm en heldere opbouw prikkelt de nieuwsgierigheid en verduidelijkt elk onderwerp; of de informatie nu bedoeld is voor de lezer van een vakblad, een populair-wetenschappelijk tijdschrift of een landelijke krant.

Op het omslag van het MH17-rapport van de Onderzoeksraad prijkt het silhouette van de Airbus 380. Dat is conform hun huisstijl. Maar dat staat natuurlijk wel beetje gek aangezien het een Boeing 777 betrof.

Pepper's ghost is an illusion technique used in theatre, haunted houses, dark rides, and magic tricks. It is named after John Henry Pepper, a scientist who popularized the effect in a famed demonstration in 1862. Recent examples of the illusion was the performance of Tupac Shakur (2012) and Michael Jackson on stage.
