De kwetsbare delta en de toekomstige stad

Deltasteden zijn aantrekkelijke steden; wereldwijd nemen het aantal inwoners dan ook snel toe. Maar het complexe water- en bodemsysteem maakt de stad kwetsbaar: er is een overstromingsrisico vanuit zee en rivieren. Wateroverlast dreigt bij overvloedige neerslag en door hoge grondwaterstanden. Bouwen op en in de slappe ondergrond is niet eenvoudig.
Om aan alle eisen te voldoen en rekening te houden met veranderende omstandigheden, zijn inrichting en activiteiten afgestemd op het natuurlijke water- en bodemsysteem.

The multifunctional dike

The primary function of dikes is to prevent flooding. But for centuries, they have also had other functions. Sheep gaze on them and they are used for recreational activities. Houses are built alongside and cars ride on top. But as sea-level rises we need a more creative approach to the opportunities afforded by dikes. Innovative, multifunctional dikes can cope with future challenges and they ensure we make the most of the available space.

Exclusively for Deltares, an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure, we visualized the multifunctional dyke.

Samen met onderzoekers van het CBS brachten wij in kaart wat de bijdrage van elke provincie is aan de Nederlandse goederenexport. Daarbij baseerden wij ons op gegevens uit de ‘Internationalisation Monitor’.

Green Port: harbour of the future

Older seaports were built at a time when there was an exclusive focus on local trade and industry and little interest in public health and environment. In recent years, there has been a rise in interest in ‘green ports’ as a way of achieving sustainable economic growth. Exclusively for Deltares, an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure, we visualized the transformation of a fictitious seaport into a sustainable Green Port.
